| Rob Mauritz and Joe Dunham at Publishing Business - April 2011 |
Joe Dunham and I recently returned from a great trip to New York
City. The purpose of the trip was to exhibit at the Publishing
Business Conference and Expo. The sponsors of Publishing Business
continue to do a masterful job of giving publishers and book
manufacturers - new and old - a reason to attend. From sessions on
digital printing and e-readers to giving away over 350 iPads to paid
attendees, the show brought in a strong audience for those of us
exhibiting.

| We gave this DODOcase away in our booth. |
LBS is a manufacturer and provider of materials for traditional book
manufacturing - meaning the printing and binding of books. We are also
embracing the changing world of publishing. In fact, if you stopped by
our booth during the show, you had a chance to win a book-like iPad
holder called a
DODOcase. The
winner was Tammy Gaines of The United Methodist Publishing House. We
are encouraged by the ingenuity of bookbinders and other innovators and
see a place for LBS materials in products like iPad or e-reader cases
as we continue to look for new avenues to provide our materials.
One can't work all the time though. Joe and I found time to hit Broadway
to see Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark. We don't recommend it - it's as
bad as the critics say. While no one flying around fell or got hurt -
which is good - the giant spider near the end of the show got stuck
going below stage and brought the action to a halt for a few minutes.
While Germany may not have Spider-Man, it does have
Drupa.
It is not too early to begin thinking about making plans for travel
to Düsseldorf to see the world’s largest exhibition of bookbinding
equipment, digital and offset printing devices and all of the materials
that feed through these machines. The 2012 event is May 3 - 16. LBS
will have representatives present for a portion of the show and
materials in a variety of exhibits -- some running on live equipment.
We are still working out the details, so please follow our e-blasts,
blogs and website for regular updates.
